Carroll 7th stay undefeated
After a two-week stretch of canceled practices and games due to weather the Carroll 7th grade girls finally had a chance to play a game. They defeated Lewis Cass 41-29 on Feb. 17 to remain undefeated for the year.
The win was the team’s eighth without a loss. Seven girls contributed to the score, led by Carly Kingery with 14 points and Bayleigh Filbrun with 17 points.
Wrestlers compete in Folkstyle tourneys
The Carroll Wrestling Club was in action last weekend at the Greenwood Folkstyle Open and the Folkstyle Indy Nationals.
The eight wrestlers competing in Greenwood were surprised upon arrival to learn that over 700+ wrestlers were registered to compete in the tournament that was changed from a beginners tournament to a regular open tournament. The club fared well with seven members finishing in the top six places.
Pee Wee wrestler Tanner Turnpaugh finished 6th with one pin. Intermediate wrestler Mason Sheagley had an outstanding day finishing 2nd and Intermediate wrestlers Bradley McCain and Kayla Hayes, the club’s youngest girl wrestler, each finished 5th. Novice wrestler Kyle Hayes wrestled well, once again facing brother and fellow Novice wrestler Cody Hayes. Kyle ended the day in 2nd place while Cody finished in 5th. Leading the Schoolboy division was first year wrestler Reece Wickersham, placing 2nd, while fellow Schoolboy wrestler Corey Hayes wrestled tough but was unable to finish the tournament.
The two club wrestlers participating in the Indy Nationals met intense competition. Bantam wrestler Dagan Noonkester wrestled tough, finishing in 3rd place. Schoolboy Bradley Leonard wrestled several tough matches including his last match which ended by rule as he was unable to get the escape after the fifth overtime. The loss eliminated him from the tournament. He placed 6th.
The Cougars will be in action Saturday at Crawfordsville.
DCMS swimmers split with Northridge
Northridge defeated the DCMS A swim team 98-88 while Delphi’s B team won 89-78.
For the A team, Trevor Peters was a double winner, taking the 400 free and 100 backstroke events. Other first winners were Elliot Murphy, 50 free; Cameron Burns, 100 free; and the 200 free relay team of Hailey Sales, Kevin Matricia, Brayton Slifer, and Jack Gillam.
First places for the B team went to the 200 medley relay team of Destiny Deel, Emily Kender, Carson Rouhier, Shelby Hudelson; Hudelson, 100 IM; Nolan Cline, 50 free; 200 free relay team of Rouhier, Kender, Cassity Welk, and Hilary Cripe; Deel, 50 backstroke; Rouhier, 50 breaststroke; and the 400 free relay team of Hudelson, Cline, Welk and Jarek Perry.
