Dorothy Bowen Hageman, 86, of Chesterton, died Friday, Feb. 19, 2010, in Valparaiso.

She was born in Lafayette, the daughter of the late Abner H. and Willa Dorothy Reid Bowen. Her marriage was to C. Howard “Blackie” Hageman, who preceded her in death on May 15, 1993.

Mrs. Hageman was a graduate of the University of Illinois, where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority.

She was an art teacher for many years in Duneland School Corporation elementary schools.

She was formerly active in Tri Kappa Sorority.

Her hobbies included photography and bird watching.

Surviving are two daughters, Nancy Hageman of Chesterton and Beth Hageman of Bloomington; two sisters, Nancy Longwith (husband: Donald) of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Willa Catherine Van Brunt of Indianapolis; and a sister-in-law, Lois Crawford of Wesminster, Md.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. today, Wednesday, at White-Love Funeral home, 525 S. 2nd St., Chesterton, where family and friends are invited to share their memories of Dorothy. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 4:30 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
