Tucked inside Steve Van Loon’s snowsuit was the Carroll County Comet’s 14”x23” page negatives which he took by snowmobile to the Frankfort Times Thursday during the storm. The Times prints this newspaper weekly. Although he returned in about 2 ½ hours, Van Loon’s first words as he entered the Comet office in Flora were “I’ve done some stupid things in my life, but this tops them all.” His problem stemmed from the “white out” conditions of the blowing snow which made it nearly impossible to see on the trip. We can tell you that his trip really did help you get your paper earlier than we thought you might and we thank him for this great effort.
Residents of Bringhurst, which will be getting a sanitary sewage system in the near future, are hopeful that the next time their community is flooded they won’t have problems with their septic tanks. Many homes were without toilet facilities for three days.
Snow stories! Flood stories! Hopefully such stories will come to an end and sunshine and beautiful days will be the topic of conversation.
Warm temperatures melting the several inches of snow on the ground plus the new rainfall have caused the worst flooding in Carroll County since at least 1959.

Quite a bit of interest is being manifested in Delphi about the bill which would make it a city again. A bill originally introduced to apply to Batesville was introduced in the house. This would apply to places over 2,750 population. This bill was again amended to include all those above 2,000. Delphi, having a census of less than 2,000 it is still problematical whether it would apply here or not, even if a new census would be taken. It seems that the state board of accounts objects in particular to Delphi being made a city. Unless an amendment can be added in the senate it will probably remain as it is. The bill has passed the house. It will then require a new census which even then will not insure Delphi being a city. Salaries in the bill now in the legislature gives the mayor $500; city clerk $500 and city attorney $400. The mayor as present receives $300; city attorney $150 and clerk, a full-time office, $90.
