DCHS to present ‘Thoroughly Modern Millie’

Comet staff report

Delphi Community High School students are four weeks into the rehearsal schedule for their spring production, “Thoroughly Modern Millie,” which will be performed March 12, 13 and 14 in the Little Theatre.

Based on the 1967 film of the same name “Thoroughly Modern Millie” tells the story of a small-town girl, Millie Dillmount, who comes to New York City to marry for money instead of love, a thoroughly modern concept in 1922 when women were just entering the workforce.

Millie soon begins to take delight in the flapper lifestyle but problems arise when she checks into a hotel owned by the leader of a white slavery ring in China.

Starring as Millie is senior Hannah Evans and Jimmy, Millie’s love interest, is played by sophomore Kendall Baker. Jared Kelly (senior) plays Millie’s boss, Trevor Graydon, the man Millie is trying to woo into marriage. Grace Currie (junior) plays the role of Miss Dorothy Brown, a wealthy Californian who comes to New York to seek a new adventure living as a “poor” working class girl. Andrew Martin (senior) and his real life brother Daniel (freshmen) take on the challenging roles of Chung Ho and Bun Foo, laundry workers at the Hotel Priscilla.

The conniving Mrs. Meers, owner of the Hotel Priscilla is played by Grace Mears. Elizabeth Rowen (junior) portrays Miss Flannery, the manager of the bank where Millie finds employment and Jordan Hudelson (junior) takes on the role of Muzzy, a popular jazz singer of the day.

Ensemble members include Erika Matrica, Grace Hampton, Emily Layman, Annie Mose, Kayla Norman, Jeahan Haron, Elizabeth Hill, Alexis Smith, Taylor Hudelson, Kiah Waldron, Dakota Veach, Daniel Elk, Neri Zamora and Ellen Sjolander.

Tickets go on sale March 1.
