George F. Willis

George Francis Willis, 56, of Camden, died at 10:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 8, 2010, at his residence.

Born April 1, 1953, in Oakland City, he was the son of Arleigh and Patty George Willis. He graduated from Delphi High School in 1971. On Aug. 16, 1986, in Flora, he married Donnabelle Hammond, who survives.

A lifelong resident of Carroll County, Mr. Willis was employed by Co-Alliance as a semi gas truck driver for over 20 years. He previously worked for Ed Angle Trucking.

He was a Pro ET class race car driver at Bunker Hill Drag Strip with his 1968 Camaro called “Grandpa’s Toy.” He was the 2009 runner-up in the wheelstand contest.

A U.S. Army veteran, he served during the Vietnam era from 1972 to 1974.

Surviving with his wife are two sons, John Johnson (wife: Angie) of Camden and Kenneth Johnson, at home; two daughters, Karen Sparks (husband: Jerry) of Camden and Kristy Jones (husband: Steve) of Kokomo; a grandson, Brent Johnson; four granddaughters, Karlee Sparks, Erika Johnson, Jessie Jones, and Jennah Jones; three sisters, Barbara Johns of Yeoman, Bonnie Curtis and Gayle Kamp, both of Lafayette; and two brothers, Thomas Willis and Terry Willis, both of Lafayette.

Services are pending at Cree Funeral Home, Camden.
