Daniel E. Long
Daniel E. Long, 88, of rural Lafayette, died at 4:06 a.m. Monday, Jan. 25, 2010, at the Mulberry Health and Retirement Community.
Born April 10, 1921, in Clinton County, he was the son of Andrew and Orpha Beeghley Long. His marriage was on Dec. 21, 1940, to Mary Ellen Wagoner, who preceded him in death April 22, 1999.
Mr. Long was a lifelong resident of Rossville.
He was a member of the North Fork Old German Baptist Brethren Church in Pyrmont.
Mr. Long retired from the Purdue University Physical Plant in 1986 after 17 1/2 years of employment. He also worked as a plasterer for many years before working at Purdue.
He loved fishing and woodworking.
Surviving are three daughters, Etta Lehman of Sedalia, Margaret Brovont (husband: Keith) of Camden, and Joyce South of Lafayette; two sons, Kenny Long of Mulberry and Rick Long (wife: Patsy) of Lafayette; two sisters, Virginia Bellah of Rossville and Mary Jessup of Sedalia; 15 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 29 greatgrandchildren; 13 stepgreat-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and four stepgreat-greatgrandchildren.
Preceding him in death were one sister, Ruth Flora, and two brothers, Chester Long and John A. Long.
Visitation will be today, Wednesday, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Bodine Funeral Home in Rossville. Services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at the North Fork Old German Baptist Brethren Church in Pyrmont with home brethren officiating. Burial will follow at the North Fork Old German Baptist Brethren Church Cemetery, Pyrmont.
