There’s more than band-aids and ice packs in a school nurse’s kit. For those entrusted with the health needs of school children, it takes a bottle full of knowledge, a dose of intuition, and good measure of caring and compassion. Delphi Community School Corporation’s “angels of mercy” are Michelle Devlin, R.N., corporation nurse and facility nurse at the high school and middle school; Susan Newhart, R.N., Hillcrest Elementary; and Melissa Maxwell, medical assistant, Camden Elementary.

Camden Elementary students have learned that recycling pays dividends. Through a joint project of the Town of Camden and the school, with a grant from Northwest Indiana Solid Waste District, four benches have been made available for the town and school. These were made from recycled milk jugs. Students had to do their part by bringing in 1,033 jugs, the required amount to make one bench.

The driver, Ernest Reed f Flora, was unhurt. Nearly 20 vehicles were in the ditch Friday morning off SR 18 between SR 29 and SR 75. Wind chill factors ranged from 30-50 degrees below zero, which were not as low as the previous weekend, but the blowing snow caused drifting of many roads, and visibility in some places was near zero.
