Four from Carroll in All-State Choir

Photo provided Carroll Jr.-Sr. High School had four students selected for All-State Choir. Performances were last weekend at the Convention Center in Indianapolis.

High school participants were Cory Ritter (his first year), Samantha Pickens (second year), and Kurtis Robeson (fourth year).

Junior high participant was Danielle Amsbury, a seventh grader.

High school students audition before sel ection committees at regions throughout the state. Junior high students audition by submitting a CD.

After selections are made, choir directors then work with the students to help them master the difficult music.

High school students attend regional practice every three weeks from October to January. They went to Indianapolis after school last Thursday and practiced Friday all day and Saturday morning. Their concert was Saturday afternoon. There were about 400 students in the high school All-State Choir.

Amsbury Amsbury Middle School All-State Choir members went to Indy on Thursday morning. There were approximately 200, and they practiced all afternoon and evening Thursday, and Friday morning. They performed Friday afternoon.

While the students have their schedules, choir directors attend “reading sessions” for newly published music, and make selections for purchase. Also, noted composers and arrangers are on hand for sessions in improving vocal education.
