Twin Lakes is Cougar prey
The Cougars evened their record for the year with a 69- 45 win at (4-5) Twin Lakes Friday.
Like the last several games, Carroll took the ball inside on Twin Lakes. The strategy proved successful as the Cougars connected on 23 of 33 (.697%) shots from inside the arch, outscoring their hosts 46- 24.
It was Carroll’s best night shooting-wise from the field, connecting on 28 of 43 attempts. On the defensive end, they held Twin Lakes’ shooting to 16 of 48 (.333%) from the field.
It was a tight game in the first half with two ties and six lead changes in the first period. Twin Lakes held a 13-9 lead after one quarter and held that same margin at the half, 29-25.
But in the second half, it was all the Cougars, who outscored their hosts 44-16 in the half. They defensively held Twin Lakes to 5 of 31 shooting (.161%) from the field while they went 17 of 24 (.708%). The Cougars opened the second half with an 11 to 2 run to take a 36-31 lead and from there the Cougars never looked back.
Carroll put four players in double figures as 6’11” senior Riley Johnson led all scorers with a career high 14 points. Kyle Geheb and Eric Miller had 13 points each and Tim Ruby added 10.
Carroll also grabbed 29 boards to TL’s 19. Miller had 7 and R. Johnson 6 for the Cougars. Johnson also had 5 blocked shots. Noah Allen handed out 7 assists.
Friday Carroll returns to Hoosier Heartland Conference play when they travel to (6-7) Tri Central. Carroll and Tri Central sit atop Hoosier Heartland Conference standings with 1-0 starts. Saturday’s game is at Pioneer.
JV cruises to easy win
The (7-3) JV Cougars held off Twin Lakes for an easy 34- 21 win. Carroll trailed 6-5 after one period. A Jay Hodson layin gave the Cougars the lead for good at 7-6. Carroll led 12- 9 after two and 20-15 at the end of three. They put Twin Lakes away in the fourth period on 8 of 10 shooting from the foul line.
Aaron Spesard led Carroll in scoring with a game-high 13 points. Hodson had 5 points in his first JV game.
