Oracle wrestlers win conference title

Four years in a row

Photo provided Delphi varsity wrestling team posted its fourth straight Hoosier Conference victory on Saturday. The Oracles scored 261.5 points for first with Benton Central placing second with 202.5 points. The much improved Rensselaer Bombers placed third with 193 points, followed by Tipton 169, Twin Lakes 148, Sheridan 125, and West Lafayette 106.

The Oracles had six individual conference champions at the following weights: 125 - junior Blake Price,135 - Nathan McTigue, 152 - Tanner Lynde,160 - Dayton Rummell,189 - Braden Atwood and 215 - Roy Anderson.

Brandon Delaney lost a hard fought battle to a ranked wrestler at 171 to finish as runner-up. Placing third for the Oracles were: 112 - Chris Brown, 130 - Kaleb Salyer, and 285 - Ken Myers. Fourth place finishers were 103 - Adam Marvel, 119 - Austin Jones and 145 - Spencer Conner. While Nick Zink at 140 placed sixth.

“Fourteen Oracle wrestlers placed in the ‘Top 6,’” said Coach Mike Atwood. “That is how the Oracles ran away with the title. Every wrestler wrestled to their seed or better.”

The Oracles will be in action Thursday at the DCHS gym at 6 p.m. against Lafayette Harrison. This will be Senior Night. Delphi’s middle school team will also be wrestling against its Harrison counterpart, starting at 6 p.m.
