Robert B. Schwartz
Robert B. Schwartz, 84, a lifelong resident of Brookston, died at 3:56 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Lafayette. He had been a resident of St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center in Delphi for the last couple of years.
Born Jan. 4, 1926, in Brookston, he was the son of the late Frank F. and Della Morgan Schwartz. His first marriage was to Mary Hanaway. They later divorced. His second marriage was to Shirley R. Jones, and they later divorced. His third marriage was on Feb. 28, 1973, in Delphi, to Rosie Rosenbarger, who preceded him in death.
Mr. Schwartz was a 1944 graduate of Brookston High School.
He served in the United States Navy from 1944 until his discharge in 1952.
Mr. Schwartz worked at Jessup Paper Box in Brookston for 12 years before retiring in 1988. Prior to that he worked for C&O Railroad for 12 years.
He was a lifetime member of the Monticello VFW Post #2231 and a member of the Delphi American Legion Post #75 where he was club manager for four years and bartender for 18 years.
Mr. Schwartz enjoyed the Chicago Cubs and playing cards, especially poker.
Surviving are three daughters, Pam Ryves (husband: Tom) of Delphi, Patti Wilson Reyher (husband: Tony) of Dalhart, Texas, and Vickie Dorton (husband: Curt) of Mexico, Ind.; four sons, Michael Schwartz (wife: Ellen), and Darrell Schwartz (wife: Brenda), both of Kokomo, Richard Schwartz (wife: Diane) and Ronald Schwartz (wife: Pat), both of Texas; a stepdaughter, Debbie Hayden (husband: Gary) of Yeoman; two stepsons, Douglas Rosenbarger of Indianapolis and Donald Rosenbarger (wife: Janice) of Delphi; four sisters, Ruth Robertson and Betty Monnett, both of Brookston, Carol Davis of Terryopolis, Pa., and Janice Morton (husband: Dave) of Orlando, Fla.; 22 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were a brother, Frank Schwartz Jr., and a sister, Jean Monnett.
Services were held Monday at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home, Brookston. The Rev. Dr. Lelan D. McReynolds officiated. Burial followed at Spring Creek Cemetery in Brookston.
