Future trail bridge
Carroll County Bridge 81, a 54-foot long Warren pony truss, was moved to a work area in Canal Park last Wednesday.
As a future project, volunteers from the Canal Association will restore and paint it, and it will become a trail
bridge. The county will be putting in a new, wider bridge at the site. Funding requirements dictated that the historic
bridge could not be destroyed. The steel bridge with latticed guardrails was built in 1908 and spanned Paint Creek,
east of Camden (CR 150E). Builders were the Attica Bridge Co. (superstructure) and James Peirce (substructure).
The contractor for the new bridge, Isom Construction, also moved the old bridge. Comet photo by Jennifer Archibald
