According to DNR, Department of Natural Resources, records as published by the Associated Press and local publications recently, The Oakdale Dam, is in poor shape and is rated as “high hazard.” The reports are from the latest inspections in 1997 and residents along the Tippecanoe River are concerned.
Repairs to the Delphi Community High School swimming pool will cost over $300,000. At the Monday night meeting of the Delphi School Board, a base bid of $299,500 was accepted from L & W Construction Co., Inc. of Carmel for the pool’s new piping, refurbishing, etc.
Kelly Moffitt and Heather DeLon competed Saturday in the Anderson Gymnastics Designated local sectional meet. Both qualified for the state meet which will be held in the spring. There were over 400 gymnasts in the competition.

Greg Zinn was selected as board chairman at the Flora Town Board meeting Monday night.
William Duff was elected chairman of the commissioners and Lee Report, vicechairman. The third member is Wayne L. Swaim.
While several Carroll Education Association teachers picketed at the front door of the administration building last night, the Carroll Consolidated School Corporation board held its regular meeting.
Carroll County Council and Commissioners vowed to work together on all decisions.
Both groups are hoping that by working closely together they will alleviate extra meetings and decision reversals which have occurred in the past.

Proposed additions to the new Hillcrest school in South Delphi will consist of 8 classrooms directly in back of the present building. The two buildings will be separated by a grass court about fifty or sixty feet wide. The new addition will have four 30 ft. by 30 ft. classrooms on each side of an 8-foot corridor with cloak-rooms and drinking fountains in each room.
The switchover to the dial telephone system has caused a lot of parties to get the wrong numbers, but one Delphi man was a little fearful that his wife would not believe that a call he received was a mistake. When he answered, a charming feminine voice said, “I’m ready to go whenever you are.”
Attorney Joseph T. Ives, Jr., Republican, elected in Delphi’s fall city election, became Delphi’s first city judge when he took office January 1st.

Persistently refusing to accept rides in motor driven vehicles since their invention comparatively late in his lifetime, William F. Whiteman, 86, who died at his home in Michigantown Thursday morning, just before his death voiced his wish to be carried in a motor hearse on his last earthly ride.
Robert S. “Steve” Turner of Burlington township, who was playing Santa Claus in a department store in Indianapolis during the holidays, Tuesday asked for judgment of $120 on the claim he was discharged from his position by a store before Christmas but too late to get employment in a similar role in another location.
Ray Hermes, a former resident here, has been named as caretaker of animals at the park zoo of Columbia Park.

January 8, 1910 was the first attempt that any Carroll county paper has ever made to give its readers a summary of all important dates beginning with those of 1909. We trust that this news will be of interest to our many readers, as it will more clearly establish many important dates and can be filed away as a chronological history of the happenings of Flora and Carroll county.
