Atwood is Holiday Duals ‘outstanding wrestler’
The Delphi wrestling team competed over the holiday break in the North Montgomery Holiday Duals Tournament. The Delphi squad finished in sixth place.
Other placings were: 1st Perry Meridian (ranked 2nd), 2nd Portage (ranked 8th), 3rd Bloomington South (ranked 7th), 4th Carmel (ranked 18th), 5th New Palestine (ranked 13th), 7th Warren Central (ranked 22nd), and 8th North Montgomery.
The Oracles had one champion for the tournament. Braden Atwood at 189 went 7- 0. To earn the title, he beat state ranked wrestlers who were ranked 3, 9, 12 and 15. He had six pins and a decision of 8-2.
Atwood was also named the outstanding wrestler, voted by the coaches at the tournament.
The Oracles had three second place wrestlers. Tanner Lynde at 152 came close to winning the title, losing to the 5th ranked wrestler in the state 3-5. He went 6-1 for the tournament.
Brandon Delaney put together another fine tournamnt placing second only to the 16th ranked wrestler, 3-4. He also went 6-1 on the day.
Roy Anderson continues to get better, placing second at 215. He beat the 16th ranked wrestler in one of the matches.
Delphi had two third place finishers at 130 and 135, Cody Alderman and Nathan McTigue. Alderman went 5-2 at 130 and McTigue 3-3 at 135. Both wrestlers had stiff competition. Earning four wins for the Oracles was Ken Myers at 285.
Individuals results were as follows: 103 Marvel 1-6, 112 Brown 2-5, 119 Jones 1-6, 125 Price 1-6, 130 Alderman 5-2, 135 McTigue 3-4, 135 Salyer 0-1, 140 Zink 0-6, 140 Heffner 0-1, 145 Conner 0-7,152 Lynde 6-1, 160 Rummell 2-5, 171 Delaney 6-1, 189 Atwood 7-0, 215 Anderson 5-2, and 285 Myers 4-3.
The Oracles will be on the mat again Saturday at the Nick Spittler invitational at North Newton. The Delphi wrestling duals record is now 15-8 for the season.
