Freda A. Eller
Freda Alta Eller, 90, of Flora, died Friday, Dec. 25, 2009, at Clarion Arnett Hospital in Lafayette. She had been a patient there for one week.
Born Sept. 28, 1919, in Carrollton Township in Carroll County, she was the daughter of Fred D. and Queen Allen Allbaugh. Her marriage was on May 17, 1941, in Muncie, to Basil C. Eller, who preceded her in death Aug. 6, 2002.
Mrs. Eller was a 1937 graduate of Delphi High School. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from Ball State Teacher’s College and a Master’s degree in special education from Butler University.
She retired as a school teacher after 32 1/2 years of teaching at Cutler, Pittsburg, Delphi, Flora and Wallace (Kokomo) schools.
Mrs. Eller attended the First Brethren Church in Flora and served as a Deaconess, Sunday School teacher, and volunteered in many positions at the church. She was a member of WMS.
She was a Past Worthy Matron of Flora Order of the Eastern Star, a member of Carroll County Historical Society, a Red Coat Volunteer at Home Hospital in Lafayette, and volunteered for Meals on Wheels and at the Thrift Shop in Flora.
Surviving is a daughter, Madonna Jean Beal (husband: Phillip) of Pope County, Ill.; a son, James Riley Eller (wife: Mary Ann) of Burlington; three sisters, Lois Maxwell of Flora, Carmen Wise of Buck Creek and June Clem (husband: Charlie) of Flora; a sister-in-law; Dorothy Allbaugh of Delphi; four grandchildren; seven great-grandsons and two great-granddaughters.
Preceding her in death was a brother, George Allbaugh.
Services were held Tuesday at the First Brethren Church in Flora. Pastor Dan Herendeen officiated. Burial followed at Maple Lawn Cemetery, Flora.
