Tri Kappa offers variety of scholarships
The state organization of Tri Kappa will award a variety of $1,000 scholarships in the spring to college students throughout the state. Since 1914, Tri Kappa has provided over $5 million in local and state scholarships.
Scholarship chairman, Anita Force of Delphi Tri Kappa is currently seeking applicants to sponsor for an academic scholarship given to students from each of the 12 provinces in Indiana. Additional scholarships will be awarded dependent upon the funds available.
Each chapter may sponsor one applicant for each type of scholarship. Any full-time student currently enrolled in a baccalaureate or graduate program, who has completed at least one academic year, may apply. Criteria used by the Tri Kappa selection committee are achievement, strong goals, extracurricular activities, work experience and volunteer service.
There are two $1,000 Key Scholarships available to two students throughout the state. This scholarship is directed to those students who have no previous degree beyond high school and have had a lapse in their education for at least five years. Any student enrolled in an accredited school offering an associate of baccalaureate degree and who have completed at least one semester may apply. Criteria used by the Tri Kappa selection committee are strong goals, work experience and volunteer service since high school.
Two Fine Arts Scholarships will be awarded to a student majoring in an Art, Dance, Drama or Music – performance, visual-graphic or computer generated art or educator. Students must be enrolled in an accredited degree program.
The Twanette Nutter Fleming Music Award is a scholarship that stipulates that the applicant must be enrolled in a fully-accredited course of study leading to a degree to teach music in the public schools.
The deadline for scholarship submission is Jan. 3. The Tri Kappa State Scholarship Committee will meet in mid- April to select the recipients.
In addition to the state scholarships, the Gamma Alpha Chapter of Tri Kappa also provides local scholarships of variable amounts. Applicants for these scholarships are available from Anita Force or the Delphi Community High School Guidance Department.
