Oracle matmen win TL Invite

Atwood breaks two school records

The Delphi wrestling team won the 15-field Twin Lakes Invitational on Saturday. Trailing a tough South Bend Riley team all day, the Oracle put together a great final round, winning eight matches out of ten. Coming out with four champions on the day helped the Oracles win the team title 197 to Riley’s second place 186.5.

Champions for the Oracles were:

• At 189 Braden Atwood. kept a perfect record in tact by winning all four of his matches. He beat a Riley kid in the finals 12-4. Atwood had three pins on the day to set the DCHS career pin record. He passed heavyweight Wes Everett’s record of 98. Atwood now has 99 falls in his high school career.

• At 135 Nathan McTigue kept his record perfect for the season at 15-0. He beat a tough Western wrestler in the finals by a fall in 2:31. He also had three other wins.

• At 152, sophomore Tanner Lynde also kept his perfect record in tact by defeating a Peru wrestler 4-2 in the finals. This was a rematch from last weekend and Lynde came out on top 3-2. Lynde’s record stands at 19- 0.

• Brandon Delaney at 171 cruised through to the finals to meet a Peru wrestler who beat him last weekend. Delaney pinned him in the finals in 2:35. He raised his record to 16-3 on the season by avenging one of his losses.

Dayton Rummell at 160 was the Oracles’ lone third place finisher. He defeated a Bomber from Rensselaer in the finals 15-8. Rumell had only one loss.

Placing fifth for the Oracles were: 119 Austin Jones and 130 Cody Alderman. Jones beat a Western wrestler 17-8 and Alderman beat a Rensselaer opponent 11-4.

Blake Price and Roy Anderson placed sixth for the Oracles, losing by 2 and one points respectively in the finals. Ken Myers finished seventh by defeating a big Rensselaer heavy weight 5-1.

The Oracles will be in action over the break on Dec. 30-31 at the North Montgomery Winter Tournament. Competing there will be six ranked teams in the top 20 in Indiana.

Vs. West Lafayette

The Oracle wrestlers defeated the Red Devils of West Lafayette 74-6. Winning for the Oracles were: 112 Chris Brown, 119 Jones, 125 Price, 130 Alderman, 135 Kaleb Salyer, 140 Nathan McTigue, 145 Spenser Conner, 152 Lynde, 160 Rummell, 171 Delaney, 189 Atwood, 215 Anderson, and Myers at 285.

Atwood set the new career winning record by winning his 151st match of his career. He beat the old mark of 150 held by 2008 graduate Donovan Alderman.
