Reba D. Modisett

Reba Donita Williamson Modisett, 88, of Deer Creek, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009, at St. Vincent Seton Specialty Hospital in Lafayette.

Born Dec. 16, 1921, near Young America, she was the daughter of Clyde E. and Tonawanda Beck Williamson. She was a 1940 graduate of Young America High School. Her marriage was on Feb. 25, 1945, in Little Rock, Ark., to Pvt. Tom F. Modisett, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Modisett worked at Fasnacht’s Jewelry Store in Logansport before beginning the life of a career Army wife.

She was stationed with her husband in Nuremburg, Germany, where he served as a guard at the Nuremburg War Trials. She lived at Fort Bragg, N.C.; Monterey, Calif.; Wenatchee, Wash.; Poitiers and Verdun, France; and Fort Hood, Texas. After her husband, the Major, retired from the Army, they resided in Golden, Colo.; Chicago, Ill., and Washington, D.C., where she acted as the resident manager of Embassy Square Hotel and Apartments on “N” Street near Dupont Circle and Georgetown.

She retired and moved back to Deer Creek to reside on the family Hoosier Homestead farm.

Mrs. Modisett will be remembered for her love of life, faith, family values and resiliency in her ever-changing life as a military wife and mother. She had a natural nurturing instinct that brought out the best in her husband, sons, daughters-in-law, grandchildren and friends. She had a constant optimism about life in general which allowed her to accept the simple things in life and allowed her to be an individual in her planning.

She was a gracious lady who possessed a mischievous spirit that kept her family and friends smiling, wondering what to expect next.

Surviving is a son, Tom Modisett (wife: Suzi) of Atlanta, Ga.; a daughter-in-law, Irene, of Goodlettsville, Tenn.; grandsons, Corey and Johnathan (wife: Kristi), both of Atlanta, Ga.; a granddaughter, Andrea Lee Corbitt (husband: Kenny); greatgrandson, Drew, both of White House, Tenn., and a sister, Lois Williamson Carson of Bushnell, Fla.

Preceding her in death was a beloved younger son, Gary, and two brothers, Kenneth and Burnell Williamson.
