Charles R. Gardner

Charles R. Gardner, 95, of Camden, died at 8:55 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center in Delphi.

Born Aug. 4, 1914, in Burrows, he was the son of Charles H. and Ollie P. Tribbett Gardner. His marriage was on June 30, 1937, in Camden, to Myra M. Witter, who preceded him in death June 28, 1989.

Mr. Gardner was a 1932 graduate of Camden High School and a life resident of Carroll County.

He was employed in plant protection at Alcoa Aluminum, retiring after 33 years of service.

Mr. Gardner was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Camden, and the Alcoa 25-Year Club.

He enjoyed woodworking and loved his family.

Surviving is a son, Steven Gardner (wife: Linda) of Covington, La.; a daughter, Sharon Ashby (husband: Steve) of Flora; a grandson, Shawn Ashby (wife: Rusty) of Camden; a granddaughter, Stephanie Olsen (husband: Henry) of Davenport, Iowa; and four great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were two sisters, two brothers and a grandson.

Services were held Sunday, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. Pastor Scott Vana officiated. Burial followed at Camden Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Camden-Jackson Township Public Library or St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Camden.

Arrangements were handled by Cree Funeral Home, Camden.
