Carroll FFA competes in Career Development Events

The Carroll FFA Forestry and Entomology teams participated in the Area VIII Career Development Events (CDE) on Dec. 1.

Members of the Forestry teams were Jill Griffin, Dan Budreau, Jeremy Hayes, Chad Griffin, Justin Barbour, Blake Seward, Ricky Burns, and Trey Overholser.

The senior teams placed fourth and tenth out of 20 teams. The fourth place team - J. Griffin, Budreau, Hayes and C. Griffin - will now advance to state competition on Dec. 12.

Jill Griffin was the fourth overall individual.

Tenth place team members were Barbour, Seward, Burns and Overholser. Andy Eller also competed as an individual.

The junior team placed fifth in the contest. Members of the team were Ty Gray, Reece Wickersham and Abby Burns. Gray was the ninth overall individual, and Wickersham was the 10th high individual.

The Entomology teams included both junior high and high school participants. The junior team of Kylor Redmon, Justyn Wilson, Justin Willoughby, and Zack Turnpaugh placed first in Area and will advance to state competition on Dec. 12 at Purdue University.

Redmon was second high individual. Rounding out the top 10 from Carroll were: Turnpaugh, third; Wilson, fourth; Willoughby, fifth; Carly Kingery, sixth; Brock Giddens, seventh; Zack Prater, eighth; and Madison Rinehart, 10th.

Courtney Atkisson was 11th high individual. Kingery, Atkisson, Bayleigh Filbrun, and Prater placed third in team competition. Fourth place team was Rinehart, Shari Bowers, Giddens, and Stephany Contreras.

Senior teams placed fourth and seventh out of 11 teams. Maizie Wickersham was the eighth high individual, and Kaitlin Ragan was ninth overall individual.

The teams of Ragan, Wickersham, and Allison Nelson placed fourth, and the team of Courtney Benefiel, Storm Dreadfulwater, and Emily Fritz placed seventh out of 11 teams. The top six teams advance to state competition.
