Lady Cougars pummel Oracles
The short drive that the Lady Cougars had to take to visit the Delphi Oracles last Wednesday just about lasted longer than the competitiveness of the game that followed. After a low scoring first period, the Cougars exposed their claws and ripped their way to a 42-22 victory.
With Delphi leading 5-2 after one quarter and 7-2 early in the second, Carroll began a run that was capped off by a Jess Yoder bucket, Whitney Arion broke the string of points with a score just before halftime. In between that 7-2 Delphi lead and the basket by Arion the Cougars scored 16 unanswered points to put Carroll up 18-9 midway through the game.
Carroll continued to pull away in the third, outscoring Delphi 18-5. With the game decided each team emptied its bench in the final quarter. With the Oracles unable to hit from the outside the Cougars packed the inside with a zone defense that completely stifled Delphi.
Jessica Yoder, Abby Reinke and Quinci Eller combined to score 40 of Carroll’s 42 points while the Oracles were led by Whitney Arion with 7 points.
