The children of Bill and Kimberly Stoddard of Flora dressed to look like their Pilgrim ancestors. The children, Bethany 4 ½, Nathan, 6 and Luke, 3, are 14th generation descendants of John and Priscilla Alden, who came to Plymouth, Mass., on the Mayflower in 1620.
Megan Walton, an eighth grader at Delphi Community Middle School, is the local winner in the Lions International Peace Poster Contest. Megan is the daughter of Ken and Kathy Walton of Delphi. Second place winner was Cory Norman, son of Greg and Susan Norman of rural Flora and third place winner was eighth grader Sara Peschke, daughter of Mark and Rosemary Peschke of rural Camden.
Custodian Richard Brown has been named Carroll Elementary Teacher/Staff Person of the Month for October. He was nominated by Courtney Rinehart.

Von A. Burton of Flora is the recipient of the first annual Pete Award given by the Flora Lions Club. The award is named after the late DeVere “Pete” Hoffman, who exemplified outstanding and extended service to the Flora community.
The new Burlington memorial Community Center was dedicated Saturday night.
Kathleen Marie Fuller of Rt. 4, Delphi, and Julie C. Seward of Rt. 1, Camden, have been named DAR Good Citizens, Charles Carroll Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution’s highest award for high school seniors.
Tioga Park reopened Wednesday after being closed to traffic for six months.
Beginning Saturday there will be free parking in downtown Delphi according to an announcement by Delphi mayor Carolyn Wagner. Tires will not be marked until after Jan.1.

Santa Claus is coming to town! He will be here Friday and will have treats for all the kiddies!! Santa will also bring a real live pony to give to a boy or girl just before Christmas. Since he has only one pony to give away, here, he will wait until the Thursday before Christmas so that everyone can get tickets from Chamber of Commerce member merchants.
A Christmas Lighting and Home Decorating contest is being sponsored again this year by the Delphi Chamber of Commerce. Eight prizes are being offered with $30.00 for first, $25.00 for second, $15.00 for third, $10.00 for fourth and four more prizes of $5.00 each.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Moore of Kolin avenue in Chicago consider themselves fortunate that the tragic airplane accident missed their apartment. The plane passed over the apartment on its way to Midway airport and crashed just four blocks away. Moore is the son of Mrs. Pauline Moore of Delphi.
Miss Karen Buck of Buck Creek has accepted the position as an operator in the Dellen Beauty Shop in Delphi. She is a graduate of Wedekind Beauty college in Logansport and is a licensed beautician.

Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Anderson moved Tuesday to the jail residence. Mr. Anderson has taken over his duties as the newly appointed sheriff of Carroll county.
After being engaged in the jewelry business in Delphi for over 40 years and having the confidence of the public all this time Luther McCain has decided to retire in favor of his son, Tom, who after a sale is held will be in charge of the McCain jewelry shop on West Franklin street, and will buy to stock it up entirely new.
100 YEARS AGO
A blinding flash accompanied by a tremendous peal of thunder brought people in the business section to their feet about the middle of the forenoon with a suddenness that would have done credit to a lion tamer avoiding a furious beast. When the excitement had cleared away and the people in the McCarty’s pool hall had recovered their wits a look at the outside revealed that the lightening had struck the southwest chimney of the Swegman building in which the pool room was located and tore a small portion of the chimney away and loosened some wires.
