Esther M. Cook of Flora has been elected as Kokomo’s local Tent 17 president, Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War. This is her fourth time being Tent president.

She invites any local resident whose grandfather served in the Civil War, 1861 to 1865, to join.

Members help preserve American patriotism by aiding with the Veterans Homes and Hospitals. They also help with memorial services and with restoring Civil War gravesites.

The national headquarters is in Springfield, Ill.

Delphi Lions Club

Delphi Lions Club held its November meeting featuring two guest speakers at the Stone Barn. The first speaker was Ani Hoveyan, a foreign exchange student from Armenia, who made a presentation about her country and culture. She speaks Armenian, Russian and English and is currently learning Spanish at Delphi Community High School. She and her extended host family, Shane and Melissa Chapman, have visited many sites around the Midwest and will continue traveling until her return to Armenia next year.

Golden Bowling introduced the second speaker, Kevin McElfresh, manager at The Andersons Cob Mill. McElfresh presented a short video featuring many aspects of the agricultural business The Andersons is involved in along with future plans for the company. He followed with a presentation about Cob Mill operations and by-products with which corn cobs can be used.

The club will host the Christmas Parade Dec. 5 at 1 p.m. There are several entries including the Shrine Club, who will perform for the crowd’s entertainment. Krista Watson is this year’s parade marshal.

Other business included paying the charter fees for the Cub Scout and Boy Scout troops.

Also approved was a $2,100 donation to the Cancer Survivorship Program to be spread out over three years.
