Randall L. Halsema
Randall L. “Randy” Halsema, 55, of Delphi, died Monday evening, Nov. 16, 2009, at Simon Cancer Center in Indianapolis. He had been there that day for treatment and had battled cancer for the past three years.
Born May 21, 1954, in Lafayette, he was the son of the late Richard and Doris Davis Halsema. He was a 1971 graduate of the former Wainwright High School in Tippecanoe County. His marriage was on Aug. 26, 1982, in Pine Village, to Cheryl A. Addy, who survives.
Mr. Halsema had been employed at the R&M Grocery Store in Logansport for the past year and had worked at R&M Wholesale in Brookston for five years. He had worked for J.H. Saylor Candy Company in Burnettsville for over 25 years.
He was a member of the First Assembly of God in Delphi where he oversaw the church grounds and landscaping and opened and closed the church for services and other events for many years.
He enjoyed gardening.
Mr. Halsema loved and was devoted to his wife and family and gave his life to the Lord. He was a devoted Christian, loved his church, and all his church family.
Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Andrea Crews of Kirkland and Misty Gibbins (husband: Ron) of Sheridan; three brothers, Mike Halsema of Charleston, S.C., Ron Halsema (wife: Joyce) of Columbia, S.C., and Rex Halsema (wife: Michelle) of Monticello; and 10 grandchildren.
Also preceding him in death was an infant brother, Cornelius.
Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Abbott Funeral Home in Delphi. Services will be there Saturday at 10:30 a.m. Pastor Brent Oliver will officiate. Burial will follow at I.O.O.F. Memorial Gardens in Pittsburg.
Memorials may be made to the First Assembly of God. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
