Indiana State Police and more than 250 other law enforcement agencies throughout the state are participating in the “Safe Family Travel” enforcement blitz in an effort to reduce injuries and fatalities on roadways this Thanksgiving holiday season.

The effort began Nov. 13 and will continue through Nov. 29. During this time, extra troopers will be patrolling area roadways to help ensure safe travel.

Troopers patrolling area roadways will be specifically looking for motorists who are drinking and driving, speeding, following too closely and driving aggressively. In addition, troopers will strictly enforce all seat belt and child restraint violations.

During the 2008 Thanksgiving holiday period, 15 people lost their lives on Indiana roadways. More than 66 percent of those fatal crashes were alcohol related.
