Girl Scouts take action for healthier teen girls
The 2009 Girl Scout Leadership Institute, held recently in Indianapolis, was attended by more than 1,500 teen girls from around the world who came to explore leadership through health issues. At the close of the institute, girls were challenged to return to their communities and take action on what they had learned.
In response to that challenge, 30 teen Girl Scouts from central Indiana created QUIRKz, an online quarterly magazine designed to address healthy living practices for middle and high school-aged girls.
The magazine focuses on developing positive physical and emotional health practices in its readers through articles, written and edited by teen girls, complimented by Girl Scout educational materials.
The Fall 2009 issue can be found online at girlscoutsindiana. org/quirkz.html.
