Various Veterans Day observances planned throughout county

Veterans Day will be observed throughout Carroll County with various activities and ceremonies conducted in local schools, community centers, and at the Carroll County Courthouse. Take time to say “thank you” to those who have served and who are currently serving and defending our country. They deserve our sincere gratitude.

Burlington

Veterans, their families and the public are invited to attend a free meal and program Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Burlington Community Park Building. The event is being sponsored by Burlington American Legion Post 414 and the Burlington Community Club.

Pastor Steve Cole will pay tribute to servicemen and women and there will be organ music and a short program. The Honor Guard of the 434th Air Refueling Wing from Grissom Air Reserve Base will be part of the program.

The Burlington First Brethren Church, located at 205 W. Eighth St., will host a Veteran’s Recognition Dinner Nov. 11 at 6:30 p.m. for any member of the military, retired veterans or active service personnel. Reservations can be made by calling (765) 566-3265.

Camden

All veterans, their families and the public are invited to a Veterans Day program Sunday evening at 6 at the Camden Community Building. The program is being sponsored by the Camden American Legion Post #413 and community.

Active military men, women and their families are encouraged to attend. A flag retirement ceremony is planned at the end of the program. The school children will be making posters and writing poems or stories to honor the veterans.

Delphi

Delphi Community Elementary School will celebrate Veterans Day Nov. 11 at 9 a.m. in the school gymnasium. Steve Carroll, former DCES principal, will lead the opening ceremonies with members of the American Legion Post 75 participating in the presentation of the “colors,” the firing of an honorary salute, and the playing of “Taps.” Fifth grade students will present a concert of patriotic music and a “special guest” will bring appropriate remarks on the meaning and importance of Veterans Day. Veterans, their families and the public are invited to attend the event.

Delphi Community High School and Middle School will mark the observance Nov. 11 at 1:15 p.m. in the DCHS gymnasium. Students in grades six to twelve will attend a program by the American Legion and VFW color guard presenting the flag and sounding “Taps.” Veterans, their families and the public are invited to attend.

Ceremonies presented by the Delphi American Legion Post 75 for the public will be held Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. at the Civil War Monument on the Carroll County Courthouse lawn. A wreath will be placed at the monument. A call to arms and firing of guns by the honor guard will also take place.
