Carroll FFA Chapter annually honors and thanks the farming community with a meal, called the Farmer’s Dinner. It occurs during harvest time.

The meal includes roast pork sandwiches, potato chips, applesauce, a drink, and angel food cake. This year, students packaged about 100 dinners. The hog is usually roasted at the school.

Letters are sent out to all the farmers in the area, and they can reserve as many dinners as they like. The meals are delivered to the farmers or they pick them up at school or at one of the local elevators as they drop off their grain. This is done after school, so the farmers have it for their evening meal.

The FFA members deliver meals to Co-Alliance Co-op, Remington Seeds, and Hog Slat, and then stay to hand out the dinners to both farmers and the employees at the businesses.

Carroll FFA advisors are Steve and Melissa Keown. They initiated the project about four years ago.

“It was started because we felt we needed to show appreciation to the farming community, because producers are hardworking and sometimes underappreciated or taken for granted. They produce our food and put many hours into what is a labor of love. They help feed the world and should be appreciated,” Melissa Keown said.

Local farmer Dave Lambert said the farming community appreciates the good gesture by the FFA.
