APC recommends wind energy ordinance
A proposed wind energy ordinance was given a unanimous favorable recommendation by the Area Plan Commission (APC) at a public hearing last Tuesday. The recommendation will be forwarded to the Carroll County Commissioners at a public hearing Nov. 16. The Wind Energy Conversion System (WECS) site regulations were certified by the APC.
Several members of the Carroll County Zoning Ordinance Steering Committee attended the meeting to be able to answer questions.
Carroll County Economic Development Corporation Executive Director Daryl Smith said the ordinance was modeled after the White County ordinance. He also stated it was considered ahead of other ordinances due to the timeliness of it.
APC member Peter Wagoner emphasized the importance of having guidelines established in the county to encourage this kind of economic development.
