New health resources website offers information on free health clinics, medications and more

At a time when some people are having trouble paying for prescriptions and many more have limited or no heath insurance, Butler University’s College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences has created a website (http://www.butler.edu/community health) aimed at helping consumers and health professionals obtain information about Indiana’s numerous health services options, many of which are free or available at a discount.

The site, which was designed by a group of Butler pharmacy students and faculty, also reinforces the college’s focus on public health, one that is supported by a $25 million grant from the Lilly Endowment.

Resources on the site include health centers and clinics, government and private programs for low-income or uninsured patients, prescription assistance and specialty pharmacies. Future plans include adding a section targeted specifically for seniors and a classified section where people can donate or sell medical equipment.

Annette McFarland, assistant professor of pharmacy practice and website project manager, said while there are other health resource websites, they generally only contain bits and pieces of information. “Our website is all-inclusive and focuses on the services available through the State of Indiana. It’s basically a onestop shop of all the tools and resources necessary to impact public health in Indiana.”
