Hoosier Home Cookin'
     It’s hard to believe that Thanksgiving is upon us. This week’s column features two unique dishes – one to enjoy as a great Thanksgiving Day side dish and the other, a great recipe for leftover sweet potatoes. Pumpkin Cauliflower Casserole, admittedly, is an unusual combination, but it really tastes great.

      CARROLL COUNTY REPUBLICAN WOMEN will have their holiday meeting at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 16 at Carroll Manor. Guests are welcome and the meal is catered.       State Senators Brandt Hershman (R-Wheatfield) and Ron Alting (R-Lafayette) are encouraging area residents to join Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman’s holiday season mail campaign for troops called “Hoosier Cheer for Our Heroes.”

      Deer Creek Presbyterian Church will have its monthly breakfast Saturday at the church from 7 to 10 a.m. The church uses the donations for community projects. It is an “all you can eat” breakfast.

      Veterans, their families and the public are invited to attend a free meal and program Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Burlington Community Park Building. A short program will pay tribute to servicemen and women. The event is being sponsored by Burlington American Legion Post 414 and the Burlington Community Club.

Costume winners named at Burlington
      Winners of Burlington’s annual Halloween costume contest were chosen at the Community Harvest Party held Saturday night and sponsored by the Kiwanis Club. The best overall costume belonged to “Trick-or-Treat Barbie, Adysan Herron.

Young entrepreneurs
      This summer, a Junior Girl Scout from Troop 41153, along with her parents, grew zucchini in their garden and then donated the zucchini to the troop. The entire Junior Troop teamed up to bake over 45 loaves of zucchini bread that were sold during Flora’s recent Moonlight Madness event.

      Business and community leaders from a nine-county region, along with Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman, were on hand Friday morning for the announcement of a new regional economic development organization called MidWest Indiana Economic Development.

DCS Foundation raffle winners
      The Delphi Community School Education Foundation recently held a raffle to raise funds for grants for teachers in the Delphi Community School Corporation. A quarter of beef was donated by a local beef producer and processed by Beutler Meats in Lafayette.
