Robert W. Hunter
Robert Wilson Hunter, 82, Carmel, formerly of Kokomo, died at 12:29 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009, at the Carmel Health and Living Center.
Born July 5,1927, in Howard County, he was the son of William C. and Irma H. (Wilson) Hunter. He was married on Feb. 4, 1951, to Jerrel “Jerri” E. Towe and she survives.
Mr. Hunter was a farmer and teacher, who retired from Northwestern School Corp., Howard County, after over 27 years of teaching.
He graduated from Ervin Township High School in 1945 and later from Purdue University. He earned a Master’s degree in education from Indiana University.
A U.S. Army veteran, he served at the end of World War II.
Mr. Hunter was a member of the Judson Baptist Church and Elks Lodge. He was an avid sports fan and also enjoyed raising cattle on his farm,
He and his wife wintered in Naples, Fla., for many years. He especially enjoyed camping with his family in Ludington State Park in Michigan.
Surviving with his wife are three daughters, Barbara Cook (husband: Andy) of Westfield, Beth Smith (husband: Dan) of Carmel, and Jennifer Huston (husband: Jon) of West Lafayette; nine grandchildren, Benjamin Cook (wife: Alison), Susan Hyde (husband: Joshua), Brian Cook (wife: Holly), Jessie Smith, Katie Will (husband: Bryan), Evan Smith, Matt Huston, Megan Huston, Mark Huston; and 11 greatgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Stout & Son Funeral Home, Russiaville Chapel, 200 E. Main St. Russiaville. His grandsons will officiate and honor him. Private burial will be held at a later date in North Union Cemetery, Howard County. Friends and family may call at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.
