Robert and Ellen Herr of Washington Township have been presented the Hoosier Homestead Award. This is given to qualifying Hoosier families who have owned the same farm for 100 years or more.
Four students at Delphi Community High School have been named AP Scholars by the College Board in recognition of their exceptional achievement on the college-level AP Examinations. The students are John Stoner, Angela Beale, Timothy Butler and Adam Christensen.
Valerie Smith Colby, O.D. has joined doctors, Greg Norman and Tracy Jackson, of Norman Eye- Care in Delphi and Frankfort.
25 YEARS AGO
Giant puffballs, one weighing three and a half pounds with a circumference bigger than a basketball, have been found this fall by Glae Clawson on his Rt. 1, Delphi property. He said he has found 30 so far this year. According to Clawson, the round, white-fleshed fungus make some very good eating!
Delphi Business Women names Mary Clawson “Woman of the Year” at Monday night’s meeting.
Laurie Noble, Delphi, received a first place ribbon and a charm for her painting, Roses with Dewdrops, exhibited at Kappa Kappa Kappa province convention recently.
50 YEARS AGO
Sheriff John Roth has issued a warning to all parents in regard to children who become involved in acts of vandalism. He stated that those caught will be arrested and placed in jail for the parents to call for them. Chief Underhill also warned that a 9:30 p.m. curfew would be enforced. Hallowe’en pranks are not to be tolerated.
The officers of Union Bank and Trust Company, Delphi, Indiana, stated that through their architects, Medland and Bowman of Logansport, Indiana, contracts have been signed for the construction of a new bank building on the location recently purchased at the corner of Washington and Monroe streets.
Lawrence O. Denio has probably locked the gates of Camp Tecumseh for the last time as its director as his retirement from the staff of the Y.M.C.A. will become effective November 15th after 40 years of active service.
Rubinoff and his violin, internationally famed popular concert artist, will appear next Tuesday, in a public concert. The big event for this community is sponsored by the Delphi Rotary Club of which Maurice Clifford is president.

The cast of the Delphi high school junior play, “Meet Uncle Sally” are Virginia Powell, Jack Orr, Garland Daugherty, Wanda Airhart, Mary A. Cripe, Keith Landis, Paul Schneep, Mary Jane Mount, Caroline Christie, Robert Hughes, Carl Heffey and Esther Nelson. It is difficult to conceive any funnier situations than you will see Wednesday. Admission 25c.
CAMDEN SCHOOL NEWS – The Sophomores have completed the copy for their school paper which will be called “The
Comet.”
The first issue will be five cents and may be bought at the Camden Drug Store.
A pear that weighed one pound and a half was raised by Charles Best of this city. It measured 13 ½ inches and was sure a giant.
100 YEARS AGO
The postal authorities at Washington, recognizing the liability of postmasters to make mistakes in getting letters in the wrong boxes, have fixed a penalty of $10 on persons taking mail out of the office other than their own, and not returning it at once.
John Lawrence, the author of the “The Road Up The Mountain” spent three months in Kentucky studying the characters that go to make up his latest play. The “Road Up the Mountain” with John Lawrence in the cast will appear at the Flora Opera House Monday evening, November 1st.
If Flora school children will observe the instructions being sent out to various schools throughout the state, illness among school children will be reduced to the minimum and the future generation will be stronger and more robust. Fresh air and sunshine are necessary to good health. Remember that plain foods are the best. Regular exercise is essential to good health. Wear only loose clothing and consumption and other diseases are spread by careless spitting.
