Wireless broadband to save the day
The article “Carroll County to go Wireless,” printed on Aug. 5 really grabbed my attention. After moving to rural Carroll County from Lafayette a few months ago, I quickly realized the need for quality wireless broadband in the area. My neighbors also expressed the same sentiments. Thanks to federal government funding and our county commissioners, quality high speed broadband will soon be available to people with no or with poor wireless service.
I commend the county commissioners for their recognition and insight for the needs of our county. They have made a decision that will benefit many, including local schools and businesses. Prices may also drop with additional competition. The contractors hired to do the job have a proven track record of providing high speed, wireless broadband using WiMAX technology. WiMAX is the next-generation of wireless technology that will deliver wireless broadband for notebooks and mobile devices for expanded connectivity on the move and at home.
I, along with the rest of rural Carroll County should applaud our local commissioners and our community for their efforts!

Appreciates new Oracle alumni site
I read the Comet online to see what is going on in my old hometown. While reading a couple weeks ago, I noticed an article about the new site created by Norman Miller, called oraclealums.com.
This is a site that has all the grads, teachers, schools of Delphi, classes from way back to present. You can go to this site and read profiles of classmates and other people who attended our wonderful school. Mr. Miller even set it up to see pictures of people, and some have sent in their senior pictures and one of them now.
A huge thanks to a great teacher for the wonderful project he has created.
Go, you Oracles, go !!!

Clarifications to story
I was so very pleased to see the fine article on Civil Air Patrol in a recent edition of the Comet.
This often forgotten and almost unknown component of the United States Air Force certainly deserves the fine writing of Comet staff writer Debbie Lowe.
While reading the article I noted a couple of factual errors, which are attributable to the information supplied, not to the reporter. Civil Air Patrol is NOT an “affiliate” of the U.S. Air Force. By congressional action in 1948 (when the U.S. Air Force was created out of the former Army Air Corps) the Civil Air Patrol was made the Auxiliary of the Air Force.
The other point that bears clarification is that governmental agencies in need of the varied support services of the Civil Air Patrol are encouraged to contact the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center (AFRCC) at Gunter AFB whenever the need arises. The Federal Aviation Administration is but one of the many federal and local agencies that have access to CAP’s specialties.
