Kimberly A. Cripe of Delphi is serving as judge of the Delphi City Court. She was appointed by Gov. Frank O’Bannon to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of former city judge Lisa Hawn.

Seated in one of the new garden “rooms” outside the Delphi Public Library, Director Kelly Currie and Board President Alan Shultz admired the surroundings. The gardens were dedicated Sunday in memory of the late Helen R. Skinner, a former Delphi resident.

Members of SINGLES are celebrating 10 years of existence this fall. This group is more than existing though, thanks to the support they gain from each other. SINGLES is an acronym for Sympathizing Individuals Needing Guidance, Love, Encouragement and Socializing. Their simple motto is “Others.”

25 YEARS AGO

Andy Cline of Delphi is the first county resident to bag a deer this year while hunting with bow and arrow in Carroll County.

Bret Bluemke had a dream come true when he was a winner in the Circus Dream Contest. He won two free tickets to the Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey Circus, was in the grand parade at the circus last Wednesday, and was chosen king. To top it off, Wednesday was his 8th birthday!

50 YEARS AGO

Colleen Bailey, Delphi high school junior, was crowned queen of the Delphi homecoming football game Friday night by Mayor Roy Clauser. Miss Bailey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Delmar Bailey, was escorted by Ed Crosby.

The following Republicans ran for public office in 1959: Charles A. Wood, Mayor; Gertrude L. Franz, Clerk-Treasurer; Joseph T. Ives, Jr., Judge; Robert C. Quinn, Councilman At Large; Robert N. Coomey, Councilman-First District; Clyde E. Myers, Councilman Second District; John I. Bowman, Councilman- Third District and Russell T. Williams, Councilman- Fourth District. “Good government can not be the result of haphazard undertakings. We promise if elected, to have the courage, time, energy and loyalty to provide the best possible for our community at the least possible expense.”

75 YEARS AGO

An official check shows that exactly 10,095 have registered in Carroll County to vote in the November election. Since the primary 83 have died and 52 of these were registered.

The Farm Bureau cooperative store is planning to move from their present location about November 1st to their new location on East Franklin street in the building formerly occupied by the Quinn Lewis garage. The front of this place is being remodeled

See an entertainment that is different, Wednesday night, Oct. 24 at 8 o’clock p.m. in the Delphi high school gym. The Rayalto Musical Company, under the auspices of the junior class, will present a program of music and comedy, consisting of singing, whistling, bird imitations, harp, shadowgraphing, character impersonations, ventriloquisms, and slight of hand.

100 YEARS AGO

Samuel W. Woodruff of Burlington has in his possession one of the most interesting documents in Carroll county. It was issued to him by President Lincoln in 1864, and was recently resurrected from an old trunk. It was an expression of the resident’s thanks to him as an officer of the 167th Regiment, Ohio National Guard, which went to the front in the time of the nation’s sorest need for troops.

Carl Schreiner of Delphi, who is attending Wabash college, is a member of the football team this season and is playing right tackle.

Walter W. Thomas and Russel Bowser were in Indianapolis Thursday, where they purchased one of the best and latest French moving picture machines. It is the intention of Mr. Thomas to open his new picture show on Thursday evening of next week.
