“Miss Julia Speaks Her Mind” by Ann B. Ross is October’s book selection for the library’s discussion group. The meeting will be Oct. 21 in the Flora Senior Center.

Local teens will be celebrating Teen Read Week, Oct. 18-24. They join thousands of other libraries, schools and bookstores across the country that are encouraging teens to celebrate this year’s theme, “Read Beyond Reality at your library.”

Parents of teens are encouraged to commemorate Teen Read Week at home with these ideas: visit the local public or school library with your teen to check out books; set aside time each night for the family to read; give books or magazine subscriptions to your teen as a gift or reward; share your favorite book with your teen; surf the Internet with your teen to learn about new books or authors; join a book discussion group at the school or public library.

The next storytime theme is, “Scarecrows.” Preschool storytime is Tuesday mornings, 10 a.m.

Call the library’s Dial-a- Story phone line for a great short story. Currently playing is, “Injun Summer.” On Friday the story changes to the classic, “The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse.” Call Dial-a-Story at 967-3814.
