New clerk-treasurer is ready to serve
Aldrich
The Democratic precinct committee voted Monday at 5:30 p.m. to appoint Delphi resident Leanne Aldrich as the city clerk-treasurer. Aldrich was later introduced to the city council in an executive session after the business meeting concluded. She was sworn into office Tuesday morning by Carroll Circuit Court Judge Donald Currie.
Aldrich said Tuesday afternoon that she has a strong background in bookkeeping. She managed the Carroll County Country Club for nearly four years, performed legal work, was a secretary to a department head at Purdue University for many years, and currently holds a real estate license. Aldrich has also driven a school bus for the Delphi Community School Corporation for 28 years and is the president of the Delphi Education Foundation.
“I know there are some issues in the clerk’s office,” Aldrich said. “But I am up to the task.”
Aldrich visited the clerk-treasurer’s office, and her new desk, Tuesday. She said she will begin holding regular office hours Wednesday. Aldrich will be in the office Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., when she will take a break to drive the school bus. She will then return to the office after the bus route is concluded.
“I expect there will be some late nights in the office by myself to get caught up with things,” she said. “I will continue to drive the bus for now. I don’t want to leave that job.”
The Delphi High School graduate said she agreed to the appointment because she desires to work on behalf of her hometown and the people in it.
“I’ve been here all my life,” she concluded. “There is a need to give back once you reach a certain age.”
