Artist Randy Beard is coming to Delphi

Comet staff report

Artist Randy Beard will be entertaining and teaching school children from Oct. 6 to 8 from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Delphi Community School Corporation

Beard, an educator, musician and writer, grew up in southern Indiana and received his Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from Indiana University.

A former sixth grade teacher, he has developed a creative writing activity for children as a reading exercise using his music and their words while student teaching at Indiana University. With guitar in hand, he is able to encourage children to read and write while motivating the reluctant reader – writer.

His presentations are very spontaneous with active participation from the young people.

“When I put music to a child’s words; eyes light up. This is a wonderful way to encourage writing and reading while building a child’s confidence.” Beard said.

He will also be performing for Parent’s Night Oct. 7 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the school. The public is welcome.
