Carroll soccer team improves to 5-8-1

Bill Stauffer photo Carroll Varsity soccer team had a solid week, winning two games and picking up one tie last week.

On Tuesday, the Cougars hosted Tipton High School and came out with a 5-3 win. Jarvis Simmons had 3 goals for the Cougars and Michael Myer had 2 goals and 3 assists. Blake Seward also had an assist. Jeremy Hayes had 9 saves in goal.

The Cougars won their second game in a row and improved to 5-8 after visiting Delphi on Thursday night, coming home with a 2-0 win. Kate Hickner scored her second goal of the year on a penalty kick for the Cougars in the 39th minute to give Carroll a 1-0 lead at the half. Simmons scored his 10th goal of the year on a follow of a Myer direct kick. Hayes had 5 saves for the Cougars.

The Cougars hosted the Rensselaer Bombers on Saturday and when the final buzzer sounded the game ended in a 1-1 tie. Rensselaer had the lone goal of the first half with just 3 minutes left to take a 1-0 halftime lead. The young Cougar squad played hard and finally converted a chance with a header by sophomore Seward off of a Myer corner kick to even the game at 1-1 with 28 minutes remaining. Both teams had chances, but neither could convert. Hayes had 5 saves for the Cougars.

Carroll is now 5-8-1 (3-0) on the season and will host Western Saturday and Winamac the following Tuesday. This Saturday will be Senior Day, so come out and support Carroll’s senior soccer players.
