L. Mae Ferrier

L. Mae Drake Brothers Ferrier, 89, formerly of Rockfield, died at 8:50 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009, at the Monticello Healthcare Center. She had been in failing health and a resident there since Dec. 6, 2007.

Born Aug. 21, 1920, in Powell County, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Grover and Leely Rogers Drake. Her first marriage was in June 1941, in Logansport, to Jesse E. Brothers, who preceded her in death Nov. 15, 1977. Her second marriage was in January 1982, in Delphi, to Robert A. Ferrier, who preceded her in death Jan. 19, 2003.

Mrs. Ferrier attended Logansport High School.

She was a member of the Rockfield Christian Church.

Mrs. Ferrier and her first husband were the owners and operators of Brothers Memorials from 1946- 1977. She sold the business but continued to sell monuments for the new owners until retiring in June 2003.

She enjoyed quilting and sewing.

Surviving is a daughter, Judy Crowel (husband: Brice) of Delphi; a stepson, Jim Ferrier (wife: Judy) of Towanda, Ill.; a stepdaughter, Janet Gobel (husband: Neal) of Indianapolis; three grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; seven greatgrandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.

Services were held Tuesday at Abbott Funeral Home in Delphi. The Rev. Ken Smith officiated. Burial followed at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockfield.
