Flora’s Moonlight Madness is Saturday

Flora’s Moonlight Madness event is Saturday from 4 to 10 p.m. in the downtown area.

It will feature children’s games, live music, a cruisein, and fun contests, along with food and craft courts and various displays.

The children’s games and activities will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The free hay dig will be bigger and better than ever, with more candy for the kids to find. Other activities will include moon walk, basketball free throw, a coloring table, free kid’s bingo, and other new games.

The band Ramblin’ Fever will play from 5 to 9 p.m., and the Idlers Cruise-In will also be from 5 to 9. For more information on the cruise-in, call (574)-967-4666.

Entries for the Scarecrow Contest should be taken to Holly’s Hair Hut on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. Judging will be a 7. The contest is sponsored by Flora Community Club, and $100 goes to the winner. More information is available at The Flower Shoppe.

There also will be bingo in the street in front of Holly’s Hair Hut from 5:30 p.m. to ?

A Savory Soup Cook-Off will be held inside the building at the southeast corner of Center and Main Streets. There are two categories, hot and mild (any kind of soup), and the winner of each will receive $25 and bragging rights. The soup should be brought between 5 and 5:30 p.m., with the judging at 6:30.

Entry forms for the Scarecrow Contest and the Soup Cook-Off are available at The Flower Shoppe.

Votes can still be cast for the “Cutest Moonbeam Baby” by placing money in the picture cans. Votes can be made at Pizza King until noon Saturday, and then until 7 p.m. in front of the Rack ‘N’ Roll building. The winner will be announced on the main stage at 7:30. All contestants will receive a gift basket. Proceeds go to KICK team scholarships and for other activities and ways to benefit children.

The “Doggone Cutest Costumed Dog Contest” is new this year. Vote by dropping dollars in cans at Stephan’s IGA through Saturday noon. At Moonlight, votes can be made until 7 p.m. in front of the Rack “N” Roll building. The winner will be announced on the main stage at 7:45 p.m. Half of the proceeds will go to the Carroll County K-9 fund, and the other half to the Community Club portable stage fund.

The Psi Iota Xi’s Silent Auction will be held at the southeast corner of Center and Main Streets. Proceeds will benefit the Helping Hand Fund.

Other attractions will be an Art Show in the T & M Building, a Quilt Show on the second floor of Pizza King, and a display of antique tractors, fire trucks and the Smoke House.

Downtown stores will be open until 9 p.m., and will be offering specials.

Earlier in the day will be townwide garage sales.

Moonlight Madness is a Flora Community Club Event, supported by local businesses.
