The death count at a fire which destroyed a hog building on the Ross Farm west of Flora is 30 sows and 787 nursery pigs, according to Kay Ross. The small pigs ranged from 40 pounds to newborn. The barn is located on CR350W. Flora Volunteer Fire Department was called at 10:22 a.m. Monday according to Flora Fire Chief Scott Sisson. He said the building was fully involved when they arrived and because the building was well made, it was a hard fire to fight.
Little Bit Country has opened recently on the east side of Camden. The new restaurant will offer daily, home-cooked lunch specials with catfish specials on Friday night and Sunday lunch special. The menu will change daily. Barb Dillon, owner has 10 years of experience in food service.

The Flora Fest, set for Saturday in the downtown area, will include entertainment, sidewalk sales, flea markets, crafts and bake sales.
While Northern Indian Public Service Company personnel were investigating the report of gas odor in Pittsburg, they found an illegal tap in the gas main and traced it to a barn. A gas meter was found there which had been stolen from a residence which had burned in Pittsburg in May of 1981. Indiana State Police Det. Sgt. Herb Clear is conducting the investigation.
Delphi City Council approved issuance of bonds to finance a healthcare center in Delphi.
The facility proposed is to consist of an 80-bed nursing home facility.

Vice-President Richard M. Nixon will be at Rochester, Indiana on October 6 to speak at a Second District rally which will honor Congressman Charles A. Halleck.
Patrick Leahy of Loughres, Ireland is visiting for two weeks with his nephew, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Leahy, of Route 1, Delphi. He is visiting here before going to New York for the weddings of his daughters, Kitty and Nancy. Miss Kitty Leahy has visited here with Mrs. Marie J. Hanaran and Peter Leahy.
Memory Lane Kindergarten opened Monday, September 14 for its fifth year of operation, with Virginia Brookbank as teacher. The following 23 pupils have been enrolled. Michael Little, Jan Myer, Dara Fitzgerald, Ann Bowman, Susan Ives, Bobby Myers, Michael Smith, Bruce Burkhalter, Patricia Clifford, Joe Quinn, Elizabeth Revington, Evelyn Seese, Margaret Ackerman, R.J. The Union State Bank today received from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation at Washington the official signs which will hang at all receiving windows as visible evidence that the depositors of this institution are insured. The Union State Bank is of one of more than 14,000 licensed banks in the country which are receiving these signs. Insured banks are able to offer protection to their depositors up to $5,000. Statistical studies have shown that this maximum fully protects more than 97 percent of all the depositors in insured banks.
The general merchandise store in Ockley, owned by Mr. and Mrs. Will Baker, is moving this week from the Frank Hoshaw building which is the present location, around the corner to the building just next to Baker's home. This was the place they formerly occupied. The post office will also be moved to the new place of business.

"Billy" Sunday gave another of his characteristic sermons at Winona. He said in part: "Judas bought a ticket for hell with thirty pieces of silver and it wasn't a round trip ticket either. There is too much playing with religion. The difficult thing is to get the church to go out after sinners. I have to spend half of my time in revivals in warming up the church. One can yell like an Indian at a ball game and yet when a man makes a home run for Jesus, he is given such a chill that he has to be carried to the refrigerator."
