Frank Fitch of Delphi will be honored Oct. 7 at a special banquet held during the Indiana Governor's Conference on Aging and In-Home Services. Area IV Agency on Aging and Community Services has named Fitch as their 1999 Older Hoosier of the Year. The event will be held in Indianapolis.
One of the most valuable assets in the Carroll County Sheriff's Department's fight against drugs and locating missing or wanted persons has died. Beckie, a 10-year-old Doberman pinscher, was found by her owner, Marion Riggle and his wife Ethel in their home. They took Beckie to the Lafayette Veterinary Hospital, but she could not be revived.
The Carroll County Country Club Restaurant has a new name and new management effective Sept. 3. The restaurant's new name is Mitchell's at the Club and is being managed by Dwight "Muggs" Mitchell, Teresa Sullivan, Marilyn Mitchell and Patti Dunbar.

The Carroll County Council in its annual session last week reviewed the proposed budget and set the salary ordinance for 1985.
Slashed from the budgets was $130,338, leaving $3,694,612 as the amount budgeted. The total requested for 1985 was $3,825,050.

Special awards given were: Jeff Sines, longest drive (male); Joellen Rinehart, longest drive (female); Ed Geheb, closest to pin; and Mike Clawson, Committee's Choice award.

Miss Jerilyn Jones represented Carroll County in the Queen contest at the Indiana State Fair and placed 4th. Miss Jones is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert A. Jones of Flora.
The Specialty Shop owned by Pearl Robinson will move within the next month to the room recently vacated by the Wynkoop Pharmacy on the east side of the courthouse square. The Specialty Shop which sells ladies, girls and infants wear has been located in the room, now owned by Al Burkle, next to the telephone offices for several years.
Bowling Alley manager, Joe Coomey is urging a full house for the special afternoon show this afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the alley when Georgette De Rosa, holder of many championships, will demonstrate the proper forms of bowling, give individual instruction, answer questions and bowl with such local stars as Lois Ayres of Flora, Joan Heddrich of Camden, Gertrude Hoagland, Mary Miller and Eva Fife of Delphi.

Sam Morris of Hartford City, formerly of Monticello has purchased the newspaper agency in Delphi from Carlyle Kirkpatrick and took possession of his new business on Sunday. His wife will join him here for residence.
A new dry good store will be opened in Delphi September 22, in the room owned by Mrs. Sophia Dreifus which was formerly occupied by the New York Store. The store will be known as the M. S. Straus Inc. and M. S. Straus will be the manager and owner.

The Delphi Herald says that J. R. Carmen, inspector sent out by the State Board of Charity, visited the Carroll county poor farm Wednesday and the report that he will send in will look bad for this county. He says conditions over which the management has no control are absolutely the worst in the state.
Last Saturday night some unscrupulous persons entered the Vandalia ticket office at Camden and after prying open the money drawer decamped with a few pennies left in the drawer.
Sarah Eikenberry, better known as Aunt Salley Eikenberry, 98, probably the oldest resident of the county peacefully passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A. F. Brubaker near Walnut Stump in Monroe township, a few minutes after four o'clock Thursday afternoon. The immediate cause of death was only such as is incident to old age - the wearing out of the old human machinery and the putting on of the immortal.
