Burlington accepts bids for paving and tree trimming
Burlington Town Council approved expenditures at a special meeting held Friday evening.
A bid for street work submitted by E&B Paving in the amount of $23,900 was approved. The only other bid submitted was from Crenshaw Paving for $29,582.
A $1,000 bid from Baber's Tree Service for tree trimming was accepted. Rice Tree Service also submitted a bid in the amount of $1,600.
Because of an emergency situation with the town's pumping station on Hahn Drive, town employee Fred Michaels brought proposals for new pumps for the wastewater system. Michaels explained the problem with the pump and system.
He said that the town is beginning to see the results of very little maintenance work being done on these lift stations. The town has only one pump in a pit that normally has two.
The council approved the purchase of a pump at a cost of $7,298 and will consider purchasing back-up pumps for both Hahn Drive and Zook Lane. Additional discussion will follow at a later meeting.
