The Cougars' first victory of the year was a hard fought battle over Tri County. For a while it did not look too promising for the young Cougars; they just weren't clicking. But in the third quarter they put the ball in the end zone for the only score of the game. With the extra point, Carroll won 7-0.

Mother Nature threatened with rain for a while, but the skies cleared in the west and the rain left. Carroll won the coin toss and deferred, kicking off to start the game. Neither team could move the ball until late in the second quarter, as the Cavaliers threatened deep in Cougar territory only to come away with nothing as Jon Bush and others turned up the "Blue Machine D," stopping the Cavaliers. At half-time neither team had scored.

The Cougar defense made mental mistakes, costing the team several times for pass interference. However, Carroll's defense played tough all night long as they had the Cavs going backwards more yards than forward.

The only score in the game came when senior Brandon Williamson scored on a 5- yard TD run, Freshman Marcus Hedrick kicked the extra point, and the Cougars were on the score board 7-0.

The offensive line opened holes for Williamson in the second half. He would burst through for good yardage. But the offense needs to fine tune its passing game.

Carroll's victory spoiled the final game for Tri- County's head coach Jeff Hettinger who had resigned to become the assistant principal at North Newton. Defensive coordinator Jared Urban will take over as head coach.

Carroll's Williamson finished the night rushing for 136 yards on 23 carries with one touchdown. Junior Jon Bush led the defense with 11 tackles.

This Friday night Carroll hosts the annual Bacon Bowl against Delphi. Game time is 7 p.m.
