Community groups… where are you?

2009-08-26 / Opinions & Letters

Not many weeks ago, Delphi Community School Corporation Superintendent Ralph Walker put out a plea to community groups for help with projects at the middle and high schools. He asked them to volunteer to do mostly simple tasks such as unscrewing blackboards from classroom walls and replacing them with white boards. Walker said this week not one community group has stepped up to the plate to help do any work.

Come on, community members!! These are your children! You told the corporation that you did not want them to spend $13 million for the repairs. But the fact remains that the buildings need a significant amount of attention. And many needed tasks can be done by those with minimal or few skills. Plus, the cost savings would be great.

This is a friendly push in case you did not see the first two notices in the Comet or if you did and just have not gotten around to volunteering.

Come on Lions! Sign up Tri Kappa and Psi Otes! Step in line Main Street! Church groups, where are you? Eagle Scouts, do you not need a project? How about you Ag Association members, surely you can pound a nail or turn a screw! Delphi Preservation Society, you are the painters extraordinaire! Friends of the Delphi Library, get your heads out of the books! Leadership Carroll County, start leading! Rotarians, put your hands up!

Call Walker at (765) 564-2100 and tell him that you are willing and able to help the corporation provide a more conducive learning environment for your and everyone's children in this community.
