Comet staff report

Carroll County Extension Homemakers will offer three educational programs Sept. 3 at the 4-H Community Building in Flora.

The public is invited to choose from two morning programs and an evening program.

Learn how to compare appliances for the best quality and save money by attending "Comparison Shopping" at 10 a.m.

Participants may choose to learn how to use herbs and spices to jazz-up vegetables and add a new flavor to favorite recipes through the "Spice Up Your Life" program at 10 a.m.

The program includes information on using flavored oils, vinegars and blended spices in daily menus. Recipes for making lowsodium spice mixes and vinegars plus tasting different seasonings used around the world will be given to those attending. Bring a favorite blended spice, flavored oil or vinegar to share.

"Sleep Soundly Tonight" will discuss misconceptions of sleep, sleep remedies and tips for getting a good night's sleep at 7 p.m.

About 40 million people in the U.S. suffer from sleep problems every year and most adults need at least eight hours of sleep every night to be well rested. Not getting enough sleep for a long time can cause health problems.
