The dedication of the new speedway at Indianapolis proved most disastrous. Five lives were demanded as a sacrifice to speed mania during three days' 'sport.' The new track was designed as a model and it was intended as a course which would allow tests to be made of the different racing machines. It is said that over $650,000 is invested in this racing plant. The track was not in the best condition but the records smashed go to show that it could not be blamed. It seems that in each instance that the loss of life was due to some mechanical defect or accident.
