Six youth and three adults are biking across America to raise $35,000 for Habitat for Humanity. They started from Long Beach Island, N.J. and will be traveling almost 3,000 miles to Cannon Beach, Ore. They stopped in Delphi last week and stayed overnight at the First Presbyterian Church.
Carroll County Emergency Management Director Dick Curts addressed the Adams Township Neighborhood Watch on Aug. 10 concerning the Y2K problem as it pertains to the approaching year. Curts' primary focus was on the family and how they can prepare themselves to survive a short term problem, emphasizing the need to use common sense in their preparation.
Steven Hogwood owner of McDonald's of Monticello and Delphi was named the Community Employer of the Year by CDC Resources, Inc. Hogwood and McDonald's were cited for supporting and employing individuals with disabilities.

Biggest Liar in Carroll County during contests at Thursday's Old Settler's Family Day was Everett Brown.
Husband Calling, one of the contests, was won by Dorothy Rhine and Judy Sanders.
Some of the other contests were: watermelon eating, watermelon seed spitting, balloon toss, beard growing and baby crawling.
During Sunday morning worship at Flora Presbyterian Church, children who had attended Bible School there during the previous week made donations of food (125 boxes and cans), and cash ($417.04) to the Food Pantry in Flora.

Three Delphi high school boys, George and Joe Smith, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Smith, and Dick Roth, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Roth, embarked from Vianco's at Pittsburg at 9:30 a.m. Monday, August 10 for an adventurous three days' trip down the Wabash river.
Tickets are now on sale for the Football Jamboree which will be played at Frankfort on Monday. These tickets may be purchased from any varsity football player, at the Wynkoop Pharmacy or at the High School Principal's office. Adult tickets will sell for $3.50 while student tickets sell for $1.50.
Circuit Clerk J. Reid McCain was recently bitten on the finger by a bat that had intruded into the privacy of his home and objected to being ejected. As a result of his injury, Mr. McCain had to submit to a series of 14 rabies shots.

The diving tower which has been in the Delphi swimming pool in Deer Creek was washed over the dam by the high waters which resulted from the rains this week.
Injuries received late Tuesday afternoon by Frank Dick, 36, of Buck Creek when he fell from a load of hay at the Eldo Martz farm a half mile west of Buck Creek and struck his head on the concrete floor of a barn, caused his death Wednesday morning at 2:15 at the Home hospital.
Albertus Williams, 67, of this city will leave Delphi next Saturday morning for Monticello, where he will take his annual hike to the Monticello Old Settlers meeting for his 40th annual round trip. His twin brother, Albert walked with him to the White county celebration for 40 years and Albertus has continued the trip annually since. He refuses a ride in the finest automobiles and every Lizzie that invites him to ride and they have been many.

Flora people were surprised Wednesday when it became known that R. D. Vorhees of Lebanon, formerly of this place, had purchased the business of Cunningham & Metzger, coal dealers as it was thought they were one of the permanent fixtures of the town.
In the recent drawing of land claims offered by the government in the Flathead Indian reservation, Carroll county participants fared unusually well. Jesse Leslie of Camden, Henry F. Wise of Delphi and Dick Crowell, formerly of Delphi, were among the lucky ones whose names were drawn and Robert H. Sherman of Brookston was another.
