Adaline G. Wallar

Adaline Groninger Wallar, 101, of Burrows, died Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at 12:05 p.m. at her son's residence where she had lived for the past 10 years.
Born May 7, 1908, in Liberty Township, Carroll County, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Addie McCain Groninger. Her marriage was on July 23, 1931, in Shidler to Clayton Wallar, who preceded her in death on Nov. 2, 1996.
Mrs. Wallar was a 1926 graduate of the former Rockfield High School. She received her music and art teaching degree in 1929 from Indiana Teachers College, now Ball State University.
She taught music and art at 13 different schools across Indiana and this area, retiring from Camden Elementary after 30 years of service to education.
She was very active in all of the schools she taught, directing many musicals and plays. Her passion was teaching.
Mrs. Wallar gave private piano lessons to area students in their home for many years.
She and her husband owned an antique shop for many years and then opened Wallar Electric in Burrows, selling appliances for 50 years.
She was a member of the Burrows Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are two sons, James G. "Jim" Wallar and Charles "Charlie" Wallar (wife: Jamie), both of Burrows; six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were two sisters, an infant brother and an adult brother.
Services were held Friday at Abbott Funeral Home in Delphi. The Rev. Nick Clark officiated. Burial followed at Brown Church Cemetery in Rockfield.
